Backlash, the very first Smackdown only pay-per-view was not short of historic moments. One of these moments happened in the main event in the WWE World title match between Dean Ambrose and The Phenomenal One AJ Styles. The night ended with the coronation of a new WWE World Champion. AJ Styles is now champ of the blue brand, and from what we are hearing it seems like the phenomenal era is here to stay for quite a while.
According to Cageside Seats, the company’s top officials have been very happy with Styles and his performances over the course of the year, which is why they decided to put the belt on him. It is also being rumored that his is expected to have a lengthy title reign possibly until Wrestlemania 33.
Styles will be defending his title at Smackdown’s next pay-per-view No Mercy, in a Triple Threat Match against John Cena and Dean Ambrose. Styles is not expected to drop the belt at this event because according to PW Mania, Ambrose has become stale as champion while Cena is expected to miss the rest of the year filming his show “American Grit.”
With Styles possibly going over at No Mercy, WWE is showing an enormous amount of faith in him. There has even been several reports earlier this year rumored to have had the Chairman of the Board himself Vince McMahon, say he is on the AJ Styles bandwagon. It was also reported that Vince wishes he had signed Styles ten years ago. That’s how impressed he has been with “the new face that runs the place,” but we cannot confirm this.
Styles has finally captured the title that has eluded him for 18 years. With this accomplishment he became the only man to hold the WWE, TNA. and IWGP world titles in history. Styles has climbed to the top of the wrestling world, now all WWE has to is let him run with the ball and let “the champ that runs the camp” show why he is the best in the world and why he truly phenomenal.
