Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Round 1 matchup
(Glorious 10) Bobby Roode and Tye Dillinger vs SAnitY (Eric Young, Nikki Cross, Sawyer Fulton, Alexander Wolfe)
The show starts off this week with a first round Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic matchup. It is the in ring tag team debut of Glorious 10 (Bobby Roode and Tye Dillinger) versus the new team that no one knows about, SAnitY.
During Glorious 10’s entrance, Corey Graves makes Tom give him a Hallelujah, and says he is finally seeing people with buttons on their shirts. CEOs and businessmen. Again Graves commentary is gold.
Roode and Dillinger while entering the ring trade off saying “Glorious” and “10, 10, 10.” Dillinger at one point ses his butt cheeks to move the 10 on his trunks and then does the 10 sign. Roode is annoyed.
SAnitY then makes their way to the ring. We see for hooded individuals with masks covering their faces. Two of these individuals then reveal their face and it is seen that it is Alexander Wolfe and Sawyer Fulton. They looked completely different from last time we saw them. They will be representing SAnitY this match.
The bell rings and Wolfe and Fulton immediately attack Dillinger. Roode thinks about getting into the ring to save his partner, but then rethinks this and leaves him to get destroyed. Dillinger sees this and asks Roode what he is doing, but by then was gone. Fulton and Wolfe hit their finisher and pick up the win to move on to the next round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic
SAnitY (Sawyer Fulton and Alexander Wolfe) defeat Tye Dillinger and Bobby Roode via pinfall.
After the match the smallest member of SAnitY begins to attack Dillinger. This assailant then takes off their mask and hoodie and it is revealed to be Nikki Cross. The last masked individual then attacks Dillinger and destroys him with some kind of high impact neckbreaker. He then takes of his mask and it is revealed to be “The Worldclass Maniac” Eric Young. SAnitY stands tall.
We cut to back stage where Dasha Fuentes interviews Billie Kay with Peyton Royce about her upcoming match with Liv Morgan. Billie and Peyton begin to laugh. They go on to make fun of the way Morgan talks and dresses and bring up the fact that she got beat in one minute by Asuka. Billie says she is going to make this match last a little bit longer just to make Morgan suffer. Peyton says she will enjoy watching this.
The show cuts to Bobby Roode cautiously walking backstage and then gets interviewed by Charlie about what just happened out there in his match.
Bobby says that Tye Dillinger is the perfect loser. Roode goes on to say he didn’t want nothing to do with this classic. Does he look like a tag team wrestler? Roode also says that Tye practically begged him to be his partner and if Tye is hurt that is on him. Tells Charlie to get out of here or he will have her fired.
Billie Kay w/Peyton Royce vs Liv Morgan.
I have to start out with an excellent quote from Corey Graves when it comes to Liv Morgan trying to find back up to fight against Billie and Peyton. “Liv has been looking for someone to watch her back but apparently she has had a hard time finding someone because no one wants to be friends with someone from New Jersey.”
Graves also mentions that the one guy chanting 201(area code of New Jersey) wishes that he returns where he came from and to stop infecting the NXT crowd.
During the match Morgan takes control at first, tries a few pinfalls, but Billie kicks out. Billie then takes control and ground and pounds her after she hit a gutbuster on Morgan. Billie gets Morgan in a torture rack and throws her into the turnbuckle but is able to kick out of that. Morgan recovers and hits an STO on Billie and starts to build momentum. Peyton grabs Morgan’s leg and distracts her. Billie hits her big boot and picks up the win.
Billie Kay defeats Liv Morgan via pinfall.
We then see a recap of what happened between Cedric Alexander and Andrade “Cien” Almas last week. Almas attacked Alexander after they lost to The Revival in their Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament match.
It is then shown what after last week’s show Almas getting interviewed about what happened after the match and why he did it. Here is his interview.
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Round 1 matchup
TM-61 (Nick Miller and Shane Thorne) vs Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss
This is the second Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic first round matchup of the night. Before the match a video of why Tino and Riddick teamed up for this tournament. Tino and Riddick say they teamed up because they always compete in the weight room with each other so instead of competing against each other they should compete with each other. Sidenote: Moss and Sabbatelli were former professional football players.
During the beginning of the match Thorne and Miller were showing why they were one of the best tag teams on the roster by dominating Moss with tag team moves. Tino tried to get involved but gets thrown out of the ring unceremoniously.
Thorne gets caught by Tino while going for a suicide dive and lands on his head on the steel apron. Moss and Tino begin to overpower Thorne. Throne tries to mount a comeback by fighting out of the opposing corner. Goes for a springboard something but Tino picks him out of the air and powerslams him.
Thorne finally gets separation and tags in Miller. Miller hits a vertical suplex on Moss, and goes for pin, but Tina breaks it up. Tino tags in, but Thorne and Miller quickly take control of this match again and catch Tino with the “In the Thunder valley.” TM-61 picks up the win and move on to the second round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
TM-61 defeats Tino Sabbatelli and Riddick Moss via pinfall.
Here is clip of the match.
Here is another clip of TM-61’s thoughts after their big win on NXT.
It is then announced that next week it will be Rich Swann and No Way Jose vs Drew Gulak and Tony Nese in a first round matchup in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Blake vs Murphy
It is main event time and it is between the former NXT Tag Team Champs, Blake and Murphy.
Again Graves cracked me up by telling us a misfortune Murphy had today. Apparently Murphy had trouble getting here, missed his connecting flight and then had to wait 40 minutes for an Uber. Also he forgot to send his payment to his storage unit and they sold all his furniture in it. This is known as Murphy’s Law. Everything that can go wrong will go wrong for this guy.
Both guys are evenly matched, but then Samoa Joe interferes in the match and takes out Blake and Murphy.
Match ends in No Contest
Joe tells Regal that time is up. Bring him Nakamura or bring him his title.
Joe waits for a response but then we here Nakamura’s entrance music. Nakamura returns in a neck brace, but then takes it off and goes straight for Joe.
Security breaks them up, but only for a short while. They start brawling again. Nakamura begins to take out security and then low blows Joe. Security seperates them again and this lets Joe escape. Nakamura is incensed and Kinshasa’s one of the security guys.
Nakamura is about to leave when Joe comes out of nowhere and attacks him and takes him to the ring. Nakamura is able to take advantage and hits Joe with a Kinshasa. Nakamura on this night stands tall.
After the show William Regal is interviewed and makes a huge announcement regarding the main event at NXT Takeover Toronto.
What did you think of this week’s episode. Let us know.
