Tonight the first round of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic concludes. Samoa Joe addresses the NXT Universe. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce continue to stake their claim in the women’s division. “The Perfect Ten” Tye Dillinger sends a message to “The Glorious” Bobby Roode, or so we think. (Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Round 1 Match) #DIY vs Tian Bing and Hoho Lun
The show starts off with the return of #DIY, Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Chiampa. Last year they mad their debut in this very tournament where they defeated Tyler Breeze and Bull Dempsey. Tonight they look to advance to get to the second round and go deeper into the tournament.
Their opponents are Tian Bing, who is first Chinese superstar signed to WWE, and former Cruiserweight Classic competitor Hoho Lun.
Bing and Lun gain the early advantage on Chiampa, but that doesn’t last long Chimapa and Gargano start to double team Lun.
Lun and Bing regain the upperhand as they attack Gargano in their corner. Lun hits a running knee to Gargano and Bing follows it up with a superkick. Bing is hitting Gargano with devastating kicks to the sternum, when Gargano hits and insecurity and gets the tag to Chiampa.
Chiampa hits a massive discus clothesline on Lun. Chiampa goes for a powerbomb, but Lun gets out of it. Lun goes after Chiampa, but Gargano tags in and hits a second rope spear. Chiampa and Gargano set up Lun and hit the superkick, knee to the back of the head combo on Lun and pick up the win. #DIY will face “The Top Guys” and current NXT Tag Team Champions The Revival in the next round.
#DIY defeats Hoho Lun and Tian Bing via pinfall.

After the match #DIY is interviewed backstage about their upcoming second round match up with The Revival. Here is the video.
We head backstage where we see Dasha Fuentes interviewing Kota Ibushi and Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins. Dasha asks them what brought them together to team up in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Kota says “Respect.”
TJP goes on to say that when he learned that Hideo Itami went down with injury he jumped at the opportunity to team up with Kota because he is elite. TJP also says that their match in the CWC brought out the best in him. He thinks that teaming together will bring out the best in both of them and they can go far in this tournament.
We go to the next backstage segment where Charlie Caruso interviews Samoa Joe. Charlie asks Joe about his attempted attack on NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura last week. Joe says he wasn’t going to attack Nakamura, he just wanted to see if his mind games where working on him and they have. Joe also says he was just trying to even the odds. Nakamura dislocated his jaw, Joe injured Nakamura’s shoulder. Joe says that he has launched a war of mind games, and that Nakamura no longer has his swag and is scared. Joe lastly claims he will become NXT Champion again.
Aliyah vs Billie Kay w/Peyton Royce.
This is the second match of the night and Aliyah is trying to gain momentum heading into NXT Takeover Toronto. Tom Philips mentions how Aliyah is Canadian and that she wants to make the Takeover card just like her fellow Canadians Tye Dillinger and Booby Roode. Corey Graves mentions that one of his sources told him the Toronto Maple Leaves hockey team want to trade their best player Austin Matthews for Bobby Roode.
Aliyahs opponent is Billie Kay accompanied by Peyton Royce. The last few weeks these two women have been running roughshod on the women’s division by racking up victories and making Liv Morgan’s life a living hell.
The match starts and Billie immediately starts to beat down Aliyah. Aliyah starts to mount a comeback with a flurry of offense and has Billie rattled. Billie takes down Aliyah and is about to go for the win, when Liv Morgan comes out and attacks Peyton Royce. Billie tries to save her friend, but this cause her to forget about Aliyah and she rolls up Billie for the win.
Aliyah defeats Billie Kay via pinfall.
After the match Morgan tries to go after Billie, but Royce recover and they start to beat Morgan down. Aliyah comes back to the ring and tries to even the odds, but to no avail. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce stand tall tonight.
Noah Potjes vs Tye Dillinger
This is the third match of the evening and Tom begins to talk about Noah Potjes. Apparently this guy is a creep according to him. Corey says that Tom has no right to call anyone creepy. Corey says that Tom is Saxton level creepy. Tom tells him to take that back.
Potjes opponent is none other than “The Perfect Ten” Tye Dillinger who is trying to build momentum towards NXT Takeover Toronto. He looks to send a message to the man who betrayed him in their Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic match, “The Glorious” Bobby Roode.
Dillinger was all business in this match. He didn’t let Potjes get much offense in this matchup. Dillinger puts hois opponent out of his misery by hitting the Tye Breaker to pick up the win.
Tye Dillinger defeats Noah Potjes via pinfall.
Dillinger is interviewed by Mike Rome after the match to talk about his opportunity at the upcoming Takeover event. Dillinger says his opportunity is at Roode, and lately all he has done is run away from him. Roode attacks Dillinger from behind during the interview and Implant DDTs Dillinger on the stage. Roode stands tall this night.
We cut backstage where Dasha interviews the team of TM-61, Shane Thorne and Nick Miller, about their upcoming second round tournament match up against Austin Aries and Roderick Strong. They say that Aries and Strong were a great team in their day, but now they are the best team of today. They go on to show Dasha how in sync they by doing a trust fall and claiming that they know what the other is thinking before they say it. Thorne and Miller claim they will win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Thea Trinidad vs (NXT Womens Champ) Asuka
In the ring we see Thea Trinidad ready to make her NXT debut. If you don’t know who Trinidad is she is a very accomplished indie wrestler who happens to be the girlfriend of “The Greatest Man that Ever Lived,” Austin Aries. Her opponent tonight is NXT Women’s Champion, Asuka.
Sidenote, Asuka has been undefeated for over a year since making her debut.
The match begins and Asuka begins to rain down kicks on Trinidad. She is able to get put of this predicament, but Asuka is able to hit a running hip attack out of nowhere.
Trinidad hits a forearm on Asuka. That was a mistake for that infuriated the champ and she unleashed a series of punches and strikes. Asuka throws Trinidad into the corner, but she gets her boots up and rattles the champion.
Trinidad tries to get the upperhand with a kick, but Asuka catches her foot and locks in an ankle lock. Asuka then hits a snap German Suplex and then transitions into a fujiwara armbar. Trinidad has no choice but to tap.
NXT Women’s Champion Asuka defeats Thea Trinidad via submission.
NXT General Manager William Regal comes out tells Asuka he has searched the globe to find her an opponent for NXT Takeover Toronto. A video appears on the tron and it is revealed to be Mickie James.
Mickie says she is back and that Asuka hasn’t beaten anyone until she beats her. She also says that they will need to call the UN because in Toronto there is going to be an international incident when she defeats Asuka for title.
Asuka is salivating at the chance to get her hands on Mickie James.

We cut backstage where Paul Ellering is talking to the Authors of Pain. He is tells them this is their house of pain. Charlie walks in and interviews Ellering about the Authors Of Pain. Ellering says he had a vision and that it is clear and that the puzzle is complete. The Authors of Pain are going to complete his strategy. Now when it comes to their Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic second round opponents No Way Jose and Rich Swann, he says they have a future in NXT, but they will not move on in the tournament. They leave.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classuc Round 1 match.
Lince Dorado and Mustafa Ali vs (Cruiserweight Champ) TJ Perkins and Kota Ibushi.
This is the final first round match up of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
The match starts out with Dorado and TJP. Both guys go for early covers on each other and are even at starting sequence of the match. They shake hands and tag in their respective partners. Ali tags in and Kota tag in.
Kota goes for a few pinning combinations, but Ali keeps kicking out. Ali hits a drop kick on Kota, but Kota hits one on him as well.
TJP takes control of Ali and is able to lock in the kneebar, but Ali gets to the bottom rope and TJP is forced to release it. Dorado tags in hits an over the top rope plancha on TJP. Dorado rolls him back into the ring and hits a crossbody on him. Ali tags in and has TJP grounded. TJP tries to get separation, but Ali prevents it and knocks Kota off the apron. Ali begins to talk trash to TJP and keeps him from tagging in Kota. TJP hits a wheelbarrow bulldog and causes separation.
Dorado and Kota tag in and Kota starts to unleash devestating kicks on him. Kota goes for the Golden Star powerbomb, but Dorado gets out of it and slaps him. Kota then hits a double pele kick on Dorado and Ali. Dorado superkicks Kota and charges at him, but Kota catches him with a scoop powerslam. Kota tags in TJP, but first hits a second rope moonsault on Dorado. TJP follows it up with a frogsplash. TJP goes for the pin, but Ali breaks up the count. TJP throws Ali out of the ring after that.
Kota then hits a moonsault on Ali to take him out. TJP dropkicks Dorado into the ropes and hits a wrecking ball drop kick. TJP tries to get the kneebar locked in, but Dorado rolls him up. Kota is able to get back in the ring just in time to break up the count. Ali tags in and spinkicks Kota and takes him out. TJP catches Ali in the kneebar and has no choice, but to immediately tap out.
Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins and Kota Ibushi defeat Lince Dorado and Mustafa Ali via submission.
